The “self I was trying to take to the world was rejected again and again” in Thandie’s words, questions help

I’m studying for my Communications class and need an explanation.

Once you submit satisfactory responses to all questions, you will receive 5 pt. Some surveys have less than 5 questions; some surveys have more than 5 questions. Please know that you will receive 5 pt for each survey regardless of the number of questions. A satisfactory response usually covers all points, relates to textbook concept and exhibits good writing quality. We expect 50-150 words response per question in a survey like this.

The question you will address, once you click on the “take survey” button, will be:

1) The “self I was trying to take to the world was rejected again and again” in Thandie’s words, is mainly due to possible conflict between which two types of identities? Personal and communal? Personal and relational? Or all three of them? Can you explain a little bit why you believe so?

2) Thandie discussed how dancing has been a magical way for her to find a way to define herself. She said, “I was other before I can be myself” yet “performance helps her literally lose herself”. My interpretation is that dancing helped her to escape her being recognized as “other” because it offered her a relational identity as a professional dancer. Do you agree with this interpretation? Do you have other interpretation why dancing offer her a magical way to define herself?
