CJ 321 Final Project Milestone Two Guidelines and Rubric Overview: The final project for this course is the development of a program review of a jurisdiction of your choosing. In order to complete this review, you have adopted the role of an evaluator as part of the inspector general’s office for the state or local municipal/county -level jurisdiction of your choice. You have been given the tas king of reviewing the offender rehabilitation programs offered by that jurisdiction and providing recommendations for improve ments. In the first milestone, you identified the jurisdiction you wish to review and explored the rehabilitation programs and re cidivism rate within that jurisdiction. In the second milestone, you will review your work on best pract ices in rehabilitation programs and evaluate how well the programs within your chosen jurisdiction reflect those best practices. You will also look at t he effectiveness of the offered programs in reducing recidivism, as well as the current issues impacting the effectiveness of these programs. You will develop the Jurisdiction Evaluation section of your final project, and submit it to your instructor in or der to gain feedback. Remember to always review your Final Project Guidelines and Rubric document to understand the required elements of your final project submission. Prompt: In this second milestone, you will classify which programs in your chosen juris diction are successful at reducing recidivism , and which ones are not. You will then look at another jurisdiction that has successful programs and extract the best practices used in that jurisdiction that make its programs effective. You will then compare the successful programs and best practices with the programs you identified in your chosen jurisdiction to determine how they differ in structure and function. Finally , you will identify the current issues facing rehabilitation programs in your chosen ju risdiction, and explain how these current issues are limiting the effectiveness of those programs. Specifically , the following critical elements must be addressed: I. Jurisdiction Evaluation : In this section, you will focus on evaluating the effectiveness of the correctional institution rehabilitation programs offered in the jurisdiction you selected, as compared to others. A. Identify which programs available in your jurisdiction appear to be successful at reducing recidivism, and which are not. Be sure to pr ovide evidence to support your response. B. Describe specific best practices of successful programs that are offered in a jurisdiction other than the one you chose. C. Compare the successful programs of the other jurisdiction to the programs that exist in your own jurisdiction to identify differences in structure or function. For example, are there similar programs in your jurisdiction that are structured differently? Is there a success ful program in the other jurisdiction that your jurisdiction does not curren tly offer at all? D.
