You do NOT have to write carefully formatted essays; instead, you can provide short paragraph answers

Here are 10 steps for successful tasks:

1. There are two tasks, and you can do either Task 1 or Task 2 first. The task instructions are

accessible under Assessments in your Course of Study, but I recommend that you also use the

task instructions in MindEdge A.02 (under Task Resources in MindEdge) because it provides

more detail about the expectations. Using the link, choose a work for either task with which you

can connect in some way.

2. Use this template to speed up the writing process: Task Template. Read the appropriate task

sample for the type of work chosen (A.03 for poetry, A.04 for short stories or novels, A.05 for

music, and A.06 for art).

3. Watch this video for tips on the tasks and to see how they can help with your studies: C100:

4. For A1 and A2, be specific regarding your thoughts on the work and the part that interests you


5. Use MindEdge for the historical research in B1 (section .06 of the appropriate module). You

only need to discuss one major event that occurred during that time period.

6. Use the library page to find biographies of the authors/artists for B2. (Click on the name in the

library page.) Be sure to focus on the insights you gain by reading the biography!

7. Use MindEdge to look up the themes or characteristics for B3 (go to the appropriate module

and use section .05 for themes and the labeled discipline (literature, art, music) page for

characteristics). Explain how you see that theme or characteristic in the work.

8. For B4, simply explain why you think it is relevant today—no research needed!

9. For C, think about what you said for A1 and A2 and what you learned in B1, B2, and B3, then

explain how your thoughts about the work have changed in some way.

10. Make sure to cite the research for B1 and B2 (and B3 if needed) in the paragraphs and on a

reference page. Formatting is covered in A.07 and A.08 with examples in A.08.

Common reasons for returns:

1. In B2, students forget to tie the biographical information back to the work. Make sure to make a

connection between the person’s life and the work itself. Name the work in the discussion!

2. For B1 Historical Context, discuss the history of the time period in general. They want a general

idea of what happened in the time period. You don’t even have to mention the work, but

naming important events helps.

3. Missing a prompt is easy. You should have about a paragraph per prompt, which means a

paragraph for A, for A1, for B1, for B2, etc. It helps to label them in your paper—you can always

remove the labels before submission.

4. For B4 and C, be sure to discuss the work itself by name. Many students discuss the

author/artist/composer or the time period, but they want you to focus on the specific work you
