Research Paper/Term Project: (Due Week 7)
Note: All quotes must be encapsulated in quotation marks. Likewise, all papers must be 100% original work to this class. The discovery of past work being used will be treated as cheating, and as is the case for plagiarism, will as a minimum will result in a 0 for the paper. Also the rubric aside, papers that fall short of minimum length will have a max point award related to the % of the paper they actually submit. For example the max possible for a paper that is 50% short of the minimum length will be 50%.
Students will on their own (i.e., the instructor will not give you topics to choose from for this class…so pls do not ask) select a subject of interest for a 8-12 page research paper (this length only refers to the body of the paper; below talks about what this does not include) supported by a minimum of 5 academic peer reviewed sources. The paper is due at the end of Week 7.
All topics are pre-approved so long as related to the class and based on (or in support) of one of the course learning objectives listed in the syllabus. If unsure of your topic can work pls post in the Question for Dr. C tab of the Forums and I will let you know if the topic can work or if it has to be revised
The paper is to be double spaced, with 1″ margins all around, Times New Roman, 12 pitch; no other style or pitch is to be used in the paper. Students who opt to utilize larger fonts, or add extra spacing beyond regular double spacing, and or put in margins larger than 1″ all around will as a minimum see a full letter grade deduction
This paper is to be submitted to me as indicated on the Course Schedule and Grading Policy Summary Table. The paper is to be in APA format 7th edition and the body of the paper is to be between 8 and 12 pages. The body of the paper does not include the title page, table of contents, appendix, quotes, or references. Abstracts should be included, but do not count as part of the body of the paper
This is to be of high quality, free of spelling and grammatical errors, and of original work. Plagiarism will be dealt with harshly. You are to title your paper by your last name. For example, an individual with the last name of Smith would name their paper “smith.docx” with “.docx” being the MS Word file extension. You are to submit your paper by uploading it to the assignment section.
You must submit your research paper to this assignment as a Word document only. Other formats will not be accepted. The date of your submission is based upon the date you successfully submit your research paper in the correct Word format.
Papers will be graded based on the Criminal Justice Formal Written Paper Rubric.
Lastly, please do not wait until the last minute to research, write, format, and edit. Proper time management is required to turn in a quality paper that highlights your criminal justice writing.Also remember this a major assignment so follow the instructions carefully.
