In 1 Corinthians, what understanding of Jesus or Christian symbol does is an use to attack worldly
wisdom? According to Portraits of Jesus Ch. 5 Paul uses the crucifixion of Christ to attack worldly wisdom. "Christ
on the cross is an example of self sacrifice, not of someone aspiring wealth, status, or power" (Portraits
of Jesus 52). This was aimed at the "inflated egos" of Corinthians who were trying to prove themselves
better than one another. The crucifixion of Christ is a shining example of self sacrifice and Paul used it as
