Instructions for the Critical Thinking Research Paper

Select a topic that interests you concerning a US political issue. Narrow your topic to a reasonable portion of an issue: Instead of taking on Immigration, consider a specific topic regarding immigration such as in-state college tuition for undocumented residents. Below are examples of topics but you may choose any topic that is a national issue and of interest to y ou.

According to Governing Today (http://www.governing.com/topics/politics/gov-2016-legislative-issues-to-watch.html), the top 10 legislative issues for 2016 are:

  • Worker pay
  • Preemption battles
  • School choice
  • Pay for success
  • State prison reform
  • Police accountability
  • Opioid addiction
  • Medicaid expansion
  • Environmental regulation
  • Road money
  • Shared economy

You can visit the Governing Today site for more information about each of these issues. Additional issues that are also trending: mental health funding, centralizing cybersecurity, marijuana, labor law and religious freedome. Information used from Governing Today is just a starting point. Conduct additional research to support your thesis.

Once you select your topic and begin your research, you must draft your final document with the following directions as your guide:

  1. Your paper must be at least 800 words. You must use at least five scholarly sources beyond Governing Today and beyond your textbook to support your thesis.
  2. Type your name and date in the upper-left-hand corner on the first page of the paper. You do not need a title page and abstract.
  3. Double-spaced with no smaller than a 12pt font.
  4. The rewording of someone else’s work and submitting it as your work without giving credit to the author is plagiarism. Such work will not be graded. It will be returned for rewrite. If this occurs, you will be given one week to submit the rewrite. Any thoughts, passages, ideas, and words of another should be documented appropriately in parenthetical citations and a reference page. You must use the MLA or APA style for citing in paper and for the reference page. Refer to The Little, Brown Handbook for examples of the APA style. You can access MLA and APA citation style handouts online through the SPC library online Web site. To access a page of links and information on the APA citation style, go to the SPC library online Web site at http://spcollege.libguides.com/content.php?pid=98920/. You can also access the library from the home page of MyCourses.
  5. You must have at least five different sources cited in the paper. You must have parenthetical citations and at least five publications cited on the reference page. Papers without citations in the body and a reference page will not be graded. The paper will be returned for rewrite.
  6. Use five sources. Encyclopedias (World Book, Encyclopedia Britannica, and on-line encyclopedias) and Wikipedia are NOT acceptable as research sources. There are some reference books in the college library and in the eBook collection that have the word encyclopedia in the title you can use. You cannot cite material from commercial Web sites. Three of the five sources you cite must come from databases SPC subscribes to through the SPC library online. If you submit a paper without references from databases, the paper will not be graded. To get to the databases, go to the SPC library online Web site at http://spcollege.libguides.com/content.php?pid=98920 and start with Social Sciences.
  7. You cannot cite the American government textbook as one of your five sources; however, you should cite the textbook if you use it. It just should not be one of your five sources.
  8. If you have extensive citations from one source, you will have to rewrite the paper. Remember, at least five sources used throughout the paper.
  9. Personal interviews, statements on television, radio, and in videos or movies are not acceptable.
  10. If the paper is turned in short of the word requirement, you will write another paper on a different topic. You will need to make arrangements with your instructor in order for the re-write to be accepted for full or partial credit.

YOU MUST PROOF READ and SPELLCHECK your paper before you turn it in. Check the rubric to make sure you have met all of the criteria for this paper.

If you run into problems with the assignment, please contact your instructor IMMEDIATELY via email before the posted due date.

You must submit the paper in word (doc or docx), rtf or pdf document format into the Political Analysis Report Drop Box.

Research on Children,

Step 1: Outline an Approach to Research on Children

Lesson 2 contains detailed information about research practices that can be applied when working with children. There are a number of ethical considerations that we must address when conducting research that includes children as well.

The goal of this discussion post is for you to use knowledge gained in Lesson 2 content to develop your own approach to conducting research that includes children.

Your discussion post should include all of the following parts: First, write down a question that you would like to answer through the research process. What are you interested in learning about child development? You might ask a question like—“How do children socialize during snack time?” or “How does the teacher interact with male vs. female children?” Begin your post with your research question.

Then think about the research cycle, considerations when selecting samples and participants, potential research designs, and ways to gather data. With these components in mind—the cycle, sampling, design, and data gathering—develop an outline that reflects an approach that you could take to answer your research question. For this part of the post, answer the following questions:

  1. What will the research cycle look like in this study?
  2. How will you sample (and why this way)?
  3. How will you design your study (and why this way)?
  4. How will you gather data (and why this way)?

Finally, discuss important ethical considerations that you must address in the study that you outlined. How will you address these ethical issues?

Save and submit your assignment.

The significant elements of school governance structure that allow for the development and maintenance of relationships between board, school staff, and community is collaboration, communication, authenticity, respect, trustworthiness, and organizational skills.

Reply to the discussion post using 200 or more words with in text citations APA format

The significant elements of school governance structure that allow for the development and maintenance of relationships between board, school staff, and community is collaboration, communication, authenticity, respect, trustworthiness, and organizational skills. According to GCU (2013), to permit school systems to thrive, school leaders establish professional partnerships with the governing board and develop the skills to foster relationship management. Collaboration between the board, superintendent, principals, and staff can positively affect student achievement, set high expectations, and focus on instructional improvement for all students. In addition, working at an alternative school, fostering relationships with businesses and leaders within the community is crucial for resources and opportunities for our students.

The element that has the greatest influence is the collaboration of every individual involved within his or her school district. Collaboration allows each individual to foster the relationships that affect student achievement and growth within their district. Fostering the relationships with board members and business leaders in the community leads to more resources and opportunities for students. Furthermore, the school district cannot operate on their own, and need the relationships between the district leaders and the local community to ensure the success of every student that walk through their doors.

Religious assessment

Question description

Write 5–7-page rationale and program description for a religious conference, based on a provided scenario.

Assessment Instructions

Scenario

Use the following scenario as the basis for this assessment:

Imagine that you work for your city’s events department and have been placed in charge of setting up a religious conference for the three most-represented religions in your area. The goal of the conference is to celebrate their traditions and create an opportunity for dialogue amongst the groups and non-members. Your supervisor would like you to create a rationale and conference program description that ensures that each religious group is fairly represented and will be informative for all attendees.

Deliverables

Event Rationale

Determine the three most-represented religions in your area, and develop a rationale for the conference that discusses the benefits of celebrating these different religions:

  • Describe the target audience(s) for the conference and why they were chosen.
  • Discuss the importance of celebrating the diversity of these religions at this event.
  • Discuss ways that this event might influence attendees’ reactions and responses to religious, cultural, and global differences.
  • Discuss why different religions should be discussed and celebrated objectively by using the vocabulary and language of religious studies and globalism.
Conference Program Description

Develop a conference program description that includes the following:

  • Fictional biographies of conference speakers who represent each religion. Includes their professional backgrounds and why they are qualified to speak on the topics of ritual, myth, the sacred, and globalism as they relate to their religion. For example:
    • Imam, who recently arrived from Egypt.
    • A rabbi who has lived in the city all his life.
    • A Buddhist monk who has recently arrived from Thailand.
  • Description of conference sessions—provide detailed introductions for each religion on these topics:
    • Mythology, ritual, and the sacred.
    • The impact of globalism in the last 20 years.
    • The commonalities among religions (specifically the three you have identified). This does not require a point of view from each religion.

Note: This is not a full conference program that would normally include agendas, times, logistics, et cetera. Instead focus on addressing the bullet points above.

Additional Requirements

  • Resources: Include a separate reference page with supporting resources. Resources and citations should be formatted according to current APA style and formatting.
  • Length: 5–7 pages.
  • Font and font size: Times New Roman, 12 point.

  3. Give an example of how you have noticed this category in your life, town or country. What impact does this category have in the everyday lives of people who practice religion in your area? (You do not have to give examples of all the religions in your area, just one you have noticed besides any you practice). For example, in Cincinnati, Ohio we have Hindu, Greek Orthodox, Catholic festivals in the summer. So if my category were “Festivals and Celebrations” I could use those events as my example.
