Young jihadi fighters
Terrorist groups usually come up from a specific group of people who have the same point of view to religion, politic, and life. They pursuit their goal with violence in a bloody way for example, On the night of 14–15 April 2014, 276 female students were kidnapped from the Government Secondary School in the town of Chibok in Borno State, Nigeria. Responsibility for the kidnappings was claimed by Boko Haram, an Islamic Jihadist and terrorist organization based in northeast Nigeria. This is something in common in most of terrorist groups like, Al-qaeda, Al-shibab, Boko haram, Farc, and KKK. But recently something happening about ISIS that amazed social and experts. There are many young and teens from developed countries are getting ready to join ISIS in Iraq and Syria. For example, NBC news reported Chicago-area teenager accused of trying to reach Syria to join ISIS was ordered to remain behind bars pending his trial on terrorism charges after prosecutors revealed that his 17-year-old sister and 16-year-old brother were with him when he was arrested last month or According to the Associated Press, Teen girls in Western Europe and some in the United States have been trying to join Islamic militants in Iraq and Syria in increasing numbers as ISIS gains control over the region. Today, two Austrian girls, ages 14 and 15, were returned to their parents by authorities after attempting to travel to the Middle East.
So far, ISIS published many advertisement video that its target is to attract people on social networks to join to this group. The content of this videos are showing how ISIS member live and sometimes even they advertise job opportunity. For example, A job advertisement has surfaced online aimed at supporters of the Islamic State who do not wish to fight on the front lines. Omar Hussain, a British jihadist who fled the UK to join the Islamic State in Syria, has posted 10 positions that the terrorist organization is looking to fill. Writing on behalf of the group under the name Abu Sa’eed Al-Britani, the devout ISIS member explains that while not wanting to be a soldier is a “sign of weak faith,” there is still much work to be done even if you’re afraid to kill or wage jihad, the Independent reports. Another scary but “fun and rewarding job” would be a security officer at checkpoints in ISIS-held territories, Al-Britani said or The new propaganda video released by Isis, featuring the former rapper Denis Cuspert from Germany, reportedly refers to sleeper cells in Britain, Australia and Germany being activated with the message to the West: “We want your blood, it tastes so wonderful!” Independent website published. ISIS usually making these videos with different languages, Also in these videos they show how being in power and being violence look like. For example, Lt. Muath al Kasasbeh, Jordanian pilot was on a bombing run over Syria in December when he was forced to eject and was immediately captured by ISIS fighters. A 22-minute video released by the al-Furqan Media Foundation, one of the official media of ISIS, shows Kasasbeh standing in a cage as he is burned alive. In most videos there is a white person who easily beheading a prisoner which gives the massage to viewer “We have no mercy”. This kind of advertisement actually worked for ISIS and CIA statements shows that more than 20 thousands of foreigner have joined ISIS past year. The range of their age is from 15 to 28 and they are from north Africa, America, Germany, France, and Australia.
There are many reasons that can lead people to join ISIS. Journalist, Islam experts, and psychologist are study on reasons of this act and everyday they come up with something new. But there are some main reasons that why a young person who live in developed country leave everything and become a Jihadi fighter.
Dr. Ehsan Chamani expert in Human Rights/Religious Freedom study, stated that life in many developed countries became boring and nonsense for many young people after while. Some young people in these countries get tired of being under control of government or always following rules and laws. In this moment some young feel Anarchism inside and they decide to leave everything behind and go to Iraq and Syria to become a new person who has power.
Thomas Hegghammer is an academic specialist on violent Islamist. He says foreign jihadi fighters bring more radicalism to the battle and make it more harsh. Even we can say they make war more rough and resistance because those foreigner in average have more believe to their radical ideology.
Mental illness such as losing a dear or fail in Love are sad and harmful feeling in twenties. Many young people after love failure lose their hope and they do not care about normal routine of life. People with this feeling sometimes look for places that they can be lonely or scape to somewhere. They pursuit to make a motivation. Some people motivate in a good way like Dj Alligator who born in Tehran, Iran, but moved to Copenhagen, Denmark and attended introductory courses in jazz and classical and after graduating from high school than he depressed and he had so many problems to continue his music career, but he did it. One the other hand some people prefer a bad way like Sally Johns British singer who after a love failure was not able to recover himself and became a Jihadi fighter. Both are musician but they end up in different way. Health day magazine published “Boys communication of depression is through behavior; it’s action-oriented,” he says. “Some of the earliest signs that a boy is depressed or suicidal are acts of bravado or risk-taking — like taking drugs or driving too fast — that he didn’t do before. Often we say these boys are bad or having a bad time, or ‘boys will be boys,’ when in fact, this is their way of telling us, ‘Look, I’m really sad or helpless”. In this kind of situation parents have to be careful about their mental problem of their child. If you suspect that your teen is going through some form of intense emotional turmoil, first try to engage him in dialogue. This may be particularly challenging for parents with sons, but it may save their lives, according to Harvard psychiatrist Pollack. Free voice of Europe admit that fail in love is one of the biggest reason that could encourage young people to join to ISIS. Teenagers after fail feel lonely and look for a situation to revenge and be in power to prove their self to other, and now ISIS unfortunately give this opportunity to them. Andre Poulin, a Canadian who converted to Islam, first appeared on YouTube in Syria last year, he said his family didn’t understand why he had moved to the country to fight with other jihadists against President Bashar al-Assad’s forces. In the video message, which ISIS later used in a , Poulin explained why he had joined the Sunni militant group. “Before I come here to Syria, I had money, I had a family, I had good friends. It wasn’t like I was some anarchist or somebody who just wants to destroy the world and kill everybody. I was a regular person,” Poulin, who later began calling himself Abu Muslim, said in the message. “We need the engineers, we need doctors, we need professionals. Every person can contribute something to the Islamic State”. ISIS has been particularly successful in recruiting its members through social media. In that sense, Horgan said, there is a “truly global appeal of ISIS” that is new. “They have become so adept at social media that they are reaching out to disaffected individuals on a global scale,” he said.
All these fact from people who are experts in Islam study and journalists prove that ISIS work hard on social medias to encourage people to join them and as a result it works as well. That is why they use a team of professional Portuguese movie makers and camera, based on Sunday times magazine. They use professionals to make unique videos for sharing on social networks. There are many reasons that push some teens and young to join to radical groups. This reasons include: mental problem, fail in love, lose a love one, and lose value of life in developed country.
