Q1.

So by now we have all been writing papers for a little while and I read this week’s forum and saw that I should share some helpful hints which could potentially assist you with this journey in completing this senior seminar. I will try to dispense with this and please do not judge me I am only here to help.

Helpful hint #1

APA is just a format and we have been using it or at least I hope you have. If you haven’t a good resource is Perdue University (Purdue Writing Lab). A simple google search for APA format will bring up their page specifically for this particular format. In addition they offer images and examples of what a paper should look like the only issue I have (mainly from my OCD) is I haven’t seen what the proper spacing is for the title page for the title. I have always winged it for that and I do not recall getting points taken off for it.

Helpful hint #2

Citation Machine (“Citation Machine® – Write Smarter, Cite Accurately”). There I said it I use citation machine on a lot of my citations. Writing citations is a thing I have never gotten the hang of and so when I am citing a website which is almost all of the time I use this Citation Machine. When I am unable to cite with this tool I will take the time and plug in all the information into my Microsoft Word “References” tool and use that to do my citation.

I hope I have been helpful to someone.

Q2.

The only question that I had on APA format pertains to references. I used this guidance and was told this is not the proper format once before. The guide states that we should use hanging indent for references meaning all lines after the 1st line of each entry in the list should be indented one-half inch from the left margin for example:

I found a helpful hint is Purdue Owl found at provides videos and tons of information on formatting.

When using APA format, follow the author-date method of in-text citation. This means that the author’s last name and the year of publication for the source should appear in the text, like, for example, (Harvey, 2019).

Studies conducted by Bond, Harvey, David, and Jones (2019) and Schroeder and Moody (2015) examined the impact of the home environment and parenting styles on decisions by young people to participate in deviance.
